Access Planet Organization, in partnership with USAID/ TAF CSM program, conducted a two-day training titled "Legal Literacy Training for Women with Disabilities" at Tilottama Municipality, Rupandehi on June 22 and 23, 2024. The training aimed to empower women with disabilities by providing them with knowledge of disability-related policies, gender, feminism and justice mechanisms. The training was facilitated by TOT-trained women human rights defenders, and the local government also facilitated the session. The major objective of the training was to provide knowledge to the participants on gender and feminism and laws pertaining to women and disability rights in Nepal.

Objective:

The objectives of the training were:

  • To train women with disabilities of Tilottama Municipality and Butwal sub-metropolitan on disability-related policies, and justice mechanisms.
  • To support in the establishment of network of women with disabilities.

The following sessions were conducted during the legal literacy training:

  1. My Life, My Realities, Gender and Gender Role
  2. Demystifying Feminism, History of Feminism in Nepal
  3. Intersectional Feminist Practices
  4. Model of Disability Rights
  5. Act Relating to Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Nepal
  6. Local Mechanism on Ending Violence Against Women with Disabilities
  7. Feminist Analysis and Engagement with the Law

Outputs:

  • Women with disabilities enhanced the understanding of their legal rights.
  • Their self-esteem and confidence level increased as it was the first training for some participants.
