Resilience Training Package for Women with Disabilities conducted in Jajarkot District

Access Planet Organization, in partnership with Women's Fund Asia, conducted a two-day Resilience Training for Women with Disabilities in Bheri Municipality, Jajarkot, on February 11 to 12, 2025. The training aimed to enhance the disaster preparedness and resilience of women with disabilities by equipping them with knowledge, skills, and strategies to mitigate disaster risks and respond effectively during emergencies. The training was facilitated by Suresh Nepali from Jajarkot and Narayani Shah from the Health Office/OCMC Jajarkot. Gargi Nepal, the president of Access Planet, led the introduction session and shared the training objectives.

Objectives:

The main objectives of the training are as follows:

  • To raise awareness about disaster risk reduction and preparedness among women with disabilities.
  • To equip participants with basic emergency response skills.
  • To raise awareness of inclusive disaster management strategies that accommodate the needs of people with disabilities.
  • To provide counseling to women with disabilities affected by the earthquake.

The training was focused on understanding disaster risk reduction and management, types and characteristics of disasters, emergency services, preparedness, response, risk assessment, risk transfer, and psychological aspects related to disasters. It also covered the types of counseling needed during and after a disaster, as well as the support structure provided by the local government and the OCMC (One-Stop Crisis Management Center).

Outcomes 

  • Participants 21 women with disabilities and 3 family members learned about different types of disasters and the heightened risks faced by women with disabilities.
  • Practical sessions improved participants' ability to assess risks and respond effectively during disasters.
  • Group and individual counseling, along with physical exercises, helped participants process trauma from the earthquake, manage anxiety, and promote mental well-being.
  • Participants learned about the One-Stop Crisis Management Center (OCMC) and the services it offers, including shelter and legal support for survivors of violence.
  • Participants were motivated to document evidence in cases of gender-based violence to strengthen legal action.
