Training of Trainers (TOT) on Leadership and Legal Literacy for women with Disabilities in Gandaki province

Access Planet Organization  conducted a three-day TOT program on “Training of Trainers on Leadership and Legal Literacy for Girls and Women with Disabilities in Gandaki Province” on 23 to 25 April 2025. The event took place at Hotel Utsav Himalaya Pokhara, Kaski District, with the participation of twenty-one women with disabilities from various districts of Gandaki Province, i.e., Kaski, Lamjung, Parbat, Baglung, and Myagdi. The training program was supported by FRIDA. The event aimed to prepare young leaders with effective advocacy skills at the community level.

Objectives of the training programs:

  • To provide TOT on leadership and legal literacy to 21 young women with disabilities
  • To prepare local advocate with disability for claiming their basic right in their local level

The training began with an interactive opening session, followed by a range of interactive and engaging sessions on leadership, gender and sexuality, feminism, intersectionality, human rights mechanisms, communication skills, CRPD, SDGs, and disability law. Facilitated by the team from Access Planet, the training included group discussions, games, role plays, and practical exercises to ensure active learning. A key highlight was the advocacy role play, where participants powerfully portrayed real-life discrimination cases and advocated for disability rights.

On the final day, participants practiced their facilitation skills, formed district-level committees, and developed local action plans under the FRIDA project. The event concluded with a certificate distribution and a group photo, with participants expressing commitment to bring change in their communities.

Outputs

  • 21 women with disabilities equipped with fundamental understanding of leadership and legal literacy
  • Participants got basic knowledge of human rights instruments, including UDHR, CEDAW, UNCRPD, ARPD, and so on
  • Participants obtained basic skills on communication, leadership, advocacy, resource management, etc.
  • Participants shared their lived experience which can be documented for organizational purposes
