Access Planet Organization successfully conducted a series of "Workshops on Policy and Governance Education" in Dhangadhi, Hetauda, and Janakpur under the UN Women-funded project “Empowering Marginalized Women Through Political Participation and Leadership Development in Nepal’s Diverse Provinces.” The workshops brought together 78 women and youth with disabilities from three provinces—Sudurpaschim, Bagmati, and Madhesh—enhancing their leadership, advocacy, and governance skills. The workshop content included public speaking training, action plan development, mentor–mentee pairing, and Netri Samwad debates, designed to equip participants with practical skills and strategies to influence positive change in their communities.
Objectives of the Workshop:
-
Enhance public speaking and communication skills for effective leadership.
-
Build capacity for designing and implementing community-based advocacy initiatives.
During the public speaking sessions, participants learned to communicate confidently, structure speeches effectively using the 5W1H (Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How) framework, and engage audiences using voice modulation, body language, and compelling content. In the action plan development sessions, participants identified local challenges and created practical strategies for advocacy on issues such as caste-based discrimination, domestic violence, health equity, and education access. The mentor–mentee pairing exercises connected participants with experienced professionals to provide guidance, technical knowledge, and support for their leadership journey. Additionally, participants prepared for Netri Samwad debates on topics including women’s rights, health, education, financial literacy, and other social issues, promoting critical thinking, dialogue, and community engagement.
Outcomes
- Participants improved their public speaking skills and confidence through practical exercises and feedback.
- Action ambassadors designed concrete action plans to address local issues such as caste-based discrimination, domestic violence, Chhaupadi, and access to education.
- Mentor-mentee needs were identified, with participants expressing interest in guidance from diverse sectors including agribusiness, disability rights, politics, journalism, and health.
- Debate topics for Netri Samwad were finalized, focusing on women’s rights, political participation, family planning, child marriage, and economic empowerment.
