Recognizing the growing concern of substance abuse and its detrimental effects on youth, community stability, and future leadership, Access Planet organized a community-based street drama in Krishnapur Municipality. The activity was implemented by the Access Planet Kanchanpur team in coordination with the Sirjanshil Child Club, leveraging performance art as an effective medium for awareness, reflection, and social change.

Objectives:

  • Youth Awareness: To educate adolescents and community members on the harmful impacts of drug abuse.
  • Prevention: To highlight the risks of peer pressure and early exposure to substance use among school-aged youth.
  • Community Advocacy: To encourage open dialogue on substance abuse and promote collective responsibility for youth wellbeing.

Outcomes:

  • Enhanced Community Engagement: The use of relatable storytelling successfully captured the attention of a wide audience and encouraged active participation.
  • Increased Awareness: Participants gained a clearer understanding of the early warning signs, risks, and consequences of drug addiction.
  • Behavioral Reflection: Parents, teachers, and youth were prompted to reflect on their roles in prevention and early intervention.
  • Stakeholder Commitment: School representatives and community members expressed interest in integrating ongoing awareness initiatives within their institutions.

Conclusion:

The community-based street drama proved to be an effective advocacy tool for raising awareness about drug abuse and its far-reaching consequences. By presenting a realistic and emotionally engaging narrative, the program fostered greater understanding and dialogue among community members.

The initiative reinforced the importance of collective action—particularly the role of families, schools, and local stakeholders—in creating a supportive and vigilant environment for youth. Such interventions contribute significantly to building informed, resilient, and empowered communities.
