Comprehensive Training on Right Relating to Education and Advocacy Skills

Introduction :
Access Planet Organization in support of Disability Rights Fund (DRF) has conducted a three days ‘Comprehensive Training on Right Relating to Education and Advocacy Skills’ on 3rd-5th May 2022. . Six women from Dhangadi sub metropolitan city, Far-western Province, six women from Nepalgunj sub metropolitan city of Lumbini province and six women from Kathmandu valley of Bagmati province participated in the training. This training aimed to inform young women with disabilities about existing education related national/ international laws and policies with special focus on disability rights. Along with information the training aimed to impart advocacy skills in participants so that they could lead advocacy from their own local level. After the training, the advocacy committee has been formed in each three provinces responsible for bringing forward education related advocacy for young women with disabilities in their respective communities.
In the three day training, the participants were provided with sessions on existing education related laws and policies including :
- Major issues in Regards to disability Inclusive Education : Problems and Their Solutions
- History of Education for Persons with Disabilities in Nepal
- National Education Policy 2076(Provisions of Education for Persons with Disabilities)
- Role Play on Advocacy
- Provisions on Education Stated in SDGs, ARPD, Constitution
- Identifying Differences Between Issues and Problems : Preparing One Minute Advocacy Message
- Local Level Mechanism on Education
- Advocacy skills (theoretical and practical)
Outcomes of the program:
- 18 participants were sensitized about the rights relating to education and advocacy skills.
- The participants got chances to enhance their skills on advocacy, and their understanding on national and international laws.
- The training itself has contributed in strengthening grassroots movement of young women with disabilities in Bagmati, Lumbini and Far West Province.
- Advocacy committee for three provinces: Bagmati, Lumbini and Far West were made and leaders were chosen.
