"Consultation with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities on Civil Society Report for the Beijing+30 Review"

Access Planet Organization, with the support of Women's Fund Asia (WFA)-LFS, under the National Network for Beijing+30 Review Nepal (NNBN), conducted a consultation program titled "Consultation with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities on Civil Society Report for the Beijing+30 Review " at Pension Vasana, Kathmandu. The program aimed to gather suggestions on the 12 critical areas of concern from the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) through the lens of women with disabilities. Gargi Nepal, President, and Mamata Subedi, Program Officer of Access Planet, led the program, with facilitation from the activists of Forum for Women, Law, and Development (FWLD); Advocate Binu Lama, Sushama Gautam, and Roshana Pradhan.

Objectives:

The main objectives of the Orientation are as follows:

  • To collect comprehensive suggestions and recommendations on the 12 critical areas of concern from the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) from the perspective of women with disabilities.
  • To promote inclusion of women with disabilities in the review of policies and frameworks related to gender equality.

Binu Lama, an advocate from the Forum for Women, Law, and Development (FWLD) delivered a verbal presentation on the Beijing+ review process. Whereas,

Advocate Sushama Gautam, Legal Officer at FWLD, presented the Civil Society Draft Report for the Beijing+30 review. During her presentation, Sushama highlighted the achievements, challenges, and recommendations on 12 critical areas of concern from Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA).

12 Critical Areas of Concern:

  • Women and poverty
  • Education and training of women
  • Women and health
  • Violence against women
  • Women and armed conflict
  • Women and the economy
  • Women in power and decision-making
  • Institutional mechanisms for the advancement of women
  • Human rights of women
  • Women and the media
  • Women and the environment
  • The girl child

Outcomes:

  • Comprehensive suggestions and recommendations were collected on the 12 critical areas of concern from the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) from the perspective of women with disabilities.
  • The event contributed to enhanced visibility of disability issues in the Beijing+30 Agenda.
