Dialogue with Media representatives at Rupandehi on Disability Inclusive Justice Mechanism at the Local Level

Access Planet Organization in the support of USAID / The Asia Foundation Civil Society and the Media under the project entitled: “Strengthening Women's Network to Foster Access to Justice for Women with Disabilities” conducted dialogue with the members of media representatives based at Rupandehi district. The dialogue aimed to create co-understanding amongst the media representatives on issues and rights of girls and women with disabilities and to advocate how media can promote in covering the issues of women with disabilities strongly at the Lumbini province.
Objectives:
- To sensitize media representatives on the rights and issues of girls and women with disabilities at the local level
- To aware media about production of right based content on disability issues
- To gather commitments from media representatives for publishing and broadcasting more sensitively on the issues of access to justice of women with disabilities
During the dialogue, media representatives shared their experiences of addressing justice for women with disabilities and working towards their empowerment. Access Planet Organization provided information on the definition and classification of disability, dimensions of disability rights, and the principles of a disability-friendly judicial system.
At the conclusion of the program, the media representatives expressed their commitment on rights based reporting of the stories of women with disabilities in Lumbini Province.
Outcomes:
- Media representatives have been oriented on the disability and rights-based approaches on disability
- Media representatives have shared their commitments to cover more on issues of women with disabilities and on right-based approaches.
- Access Planet’s networking and relationship with the media representatives have been strengthened.
