Enhancing Access of Girls and Young Women with Disabilities of Chitwan District on Inclusive education and Technology”
Access Planet with support of FRIDA has successfully conducted interaction program on the topic “Present Situation, challenges and Way Forward for Enhancing Access of Girls and Young Women with Disabilities of Chitwan District on Inclusive education and Technology” on 28 June 2021. In the interaction program, different issues on education of girls and women with disabilities especially in the time of current crisis were discussed with the concerned stakeholders. Representatives from various municipalities including Municipal Education Chief, resource teachers and school principals were present in the interaction program.
In the interaction program, a paper on the topic of “Situation of Access of Inclusive Education and Technology to Girls and Women with Disabilities” was presented by Ms. Laxmi Nepal, Executive Director of the organization. The paper had major focus on:
- Present statistics of persons with disabilities in Nepal
- Provisions by government of Nepal for education of students with disabilities.
- Problems related to education of students with disabilities mainly female students at Chitwan.
- The way forward
After her presentation, Sanjaya Aryal, local Disability Right Expert highlighted in brief about the issues pertaining to education in Chitwan.
After those two presentations, the floor was open and questions and issues were raised by women with disabilities to the stakeholders.
Finally, commitments were gathered from the stakeholders on the education of girls and young women with disabilities. We are very hopeful that these types of programs keeps on urging local stakeholders and decision makers to fulfill their promises and commitments towards quality education of girls and young women with disabilities.
