Leadership Training for Young Women with Disabilities at Kailali, Far Western Province

Introduction

On 19-20 March 2022, Access Planet Organization had conducted two days Training of Trainers on Leadership and Legal Literacy to Young women with Disabilities. Ten women from Kailali and Kanchanpur districts of Far-western Province participated in the Training of trainers' (TOT). This training aimed to empower young women with disabilities in the grassroots so that the movement of young women with disabilities in the community will be strengthened. After the training, the advocacy committee has been formed in each two districts responsible for bringing forward young women with disabilities in their respective communities.

The other phase of this particular project was to provide One day leadership training to young women with disabilities of Kailali district. On 16th April,2022, Access Planet Organization conducted one day Leadership Training for Young Women with Disabilities at Kailali, Far Western Province. The training was conducted in the funding support of Purposeful, the Girls Fund with the objective of capacitating young women with disabilities and strengthening campaigning at the local level in regards to women and disability rights. Previous participants from Training of Trainers facilitated this program.

In the training, participants were provided with sessions on leadership and legal literacy including:

  • Team Building and Group Formation

 

  • Laws on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
  • Sex, Gender and Gender Roles
  • Public Speaking

Outcomes of the Program:

  • 21 participants were sensitized about the rights and laws related to women with disabilities.
  • The participants of Training of Trainers got chances to enhance their skills on leadership, program organizing and training facilitation.
  • The enhanced leadership of participants of Training of Trainers and other participants has contributed in strengthening grassroots movement of young women with disabilities in Kailali district.
