Legal Literacy Training for Women with Disabilities of Tansen, Palpa
Access Planet Organization, in partnership with USAID/TAF CSM program, conducted a two-day training titled "Legal Literacy Training for Women with Disabilities" at Tansen Municipality, Palpa on June 26 and 27, 2024. The training aimed to empower women with disabilities by providing them with knowledge of disability-related policies, gender, feminism, and justice mechanisms. The training was facilitated by TOT-trained women human rights defenders, Srijana Dhakal, Choodamani B.M, and the local government also facilitated the session. The entire training was mentored and supported by Srijana Dhakal, vice chair of Access Planet.
Objective:
The main objectives of the orientation were as follows:
- To train women with disabilities in Palpa district, specifically Tansen municipality, on disability-related policies, and justice mechanisms.
- To support the establishment of a network of women with disabilities.
The following sessions were conducted during the legal literacy training:
- My Life, My Realities, Gender and Gender Role
- Demystifying Feminism, History of Feminism in Nepal
- Intersectional Feminist Practices
- Model of Disability Rights
- Act Relating to Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Nepal
- Local Mechanisms on Ending Violence Against Women with Disabilities
- Feminist Analysis and Engagement with the Law
Output:
- 16 women with disabilities increased their understanding of gender, feminism, and their legal rights.
- Their self-esteem and confidence level increased as it was the first training for some participants.
- Increased confidence, coordination, networking and session facilitation skills of 4 ToT participants.
