One Day Leadership program to women with Disabilities in Lumjung

Access Planet organization conducted a “One-Day Leadership Program for Women with Disabilities of Lumjung” on 29th May, 2025, Thursday. The event took place at the seminar hall of Bhakti Namuna Secondary School, Bhoteodar, Lumjung, with the participation of twenty persons with disabilities and their guardians. The program funded by FRIDA aimed to strengthen the capacities of young women with disabilities in Lamjung through representatives who had participated in the three-day TOT program held from April 27 to 29, 2025, in Pokhara.

Objectives of the training 

• To offer Leadership skills to the trainees at local level who participated in TOT program
• To aware women with disabilities about their basic rights

The training program, inaugurated by Hon. Krishna Koirala, Mayor of Sundarbazar Municipality, brought together 20 young women with disabilities, their guardians, and local stakeholders to focus on equality and non-discrimination. The session covered the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2074, with Mr. Rajendra Ghimire outlining key legal provisions and services available. Ms. Sushma Tamang led discussions on how gender roles are shaped by family, media, religion, and the state, while Ms. Saraswoti Manandhar facilitated activities on leadership and teamwork to address local issues collaboratively. Ms. Sajana Gurung concluded with a session on gender-based violence and feminism, explaining different forms of violence and introducing feminist concepts. The program closed with appreciation for Principal Navaraj Adhikari’s support and a call for participants to use their learning to promote inclusion and equality in their communities.

Outcomes

• The event provided wonderful platform to the trainers to enhance their confidence
• We were able to build network with local authorities
• Other women with Disabilities also got an opportunity to learn about basic concepts of Leadership, Gender, ARPD and Gender based violence
