Training of Trainers (TOT) on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights to Women with Disabilities of Sudurpaschim and Karnali Province.”
Access Planet Organization, in support of TEWA, organized a three-day Training of Trainers on SRHR for Women with Disabilities for 16 women with disabilities from Sudurpaschim and Karnali Province from June 14th to 16th, 2024. The main aim of the training was to enhance the skills of young women with disabilities from Sudurpashchim and Karnali Provinces on SRH rights of girls and women with disabilities and make them trainers and champions of SRH rights and advocacy in their community. The training of trainers was conducted for women with disabilities who are actively working on the issues of access to justice for persons with disabilities. These participants will provide an orientation on SRHR to the girls with disabilities in 8 different schools of Surkhet and Dhangadhi.
Objectives:
The main objectives of ToT are:
- To enhance the skills of young women with disabilities from Sudurpaschim and Karnali Provinces on the SRH rights of girls and women with disabilities.
- To broaden knowledge and raise awareness of SRHR among students with disabilities.
The sessions conducted in the ToT are as follows:
- Models of Disability right
- Body Image and Self-Esteem
- Human Body and Development and Anatomy of Reproductive Organs
- My life, My Realities, Gender and Gender Roles
- Sexuality
- Intersectionality
- Menstruation: Process, Management and Myths
- Conception, Contraception and Pregnancy: Myths and Facts on Abortion
- STI, RTI, HIV and AIDS/contraceptive devices
- Sexual Abuse and Violence
- Preparation of Action Plan
- Skills for conducting Sessions and Demonstrations
Outputs:
- 16 participants were oriented, sensitized, and provided guidance regarding sexual and reproductive health rights.
- This training was able to come up with 16 trainers who will be giving training to the students with disabilities on SRHR, and they were all set to provide training to the students with disabilities in the respective districts.
- The participants were also able to build knowledge on “Models of Disability, Body Image, Human Body and Development, Reproductive system, Gender and Gender Roles, Menstruation hygiene and Management, Conception, Contraception, Pregnancy, Abortion, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STI), Intersectionality, Sexuality, Sexual Abuse and Violence
- The participants developed the confidence to speak freely on the matter of SRHR.
