Access Planet Organization, in the funding support of the Urgent Action Grant, conducted 2-day training on “Disability Awareness, Inclusive Communication, and Safeguarding Practices” for the staff and board members of organizations and fresher staff of other organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs).

Objective:

  • To capacitate staff, board of Access  Planet and other OPDs on disability inclusive communication, disability rights, and safeguarding practices while working  with persons with disabilities

The two-day training began with an interactive introduction activity that encouraged participants to engage and connect with one another. This was followed by an overview of the training’s objectives and schedule. The sessions covered a range of practical and theoretical topics, including team building and leadership, understanding disability from a rights-based perspective, and essential financial record-keeping practices. On the second day, participants reviewed previous sessions through group discussions and a quiz. Additional sessions focused on disability etiquette, inclusive communication strategies, event report writing, and safeguarding practices when working with persons with disabilities. The training concluded with participant feedback, highlighting the value of the sessions, the need for improved accessibility and logistics, and a request for future training on organizational development and proposal writing.

Output:

  • 20 participants, including board and staff of Access Planet and fresher staff of other OPDs enhanced knowledge on different types of disabilities and related support mechanism.
  • Participants got practical and hands on experience from the disability rights experts on inclusive and respectful communication strategies.
  • The participants could identify safeguarding risks and implement appropriate responses.
  • Their knowledge and skills on organizational management including report writing, financial management were enhanced.
