Two Days Leadership and Legal Literacy Training for young women with Disabilities

Access Planet Organization recently conducted a two-day training on "Leadership and Legal Literacy for Young Women and Girls with Disabilities" in coordination with the Legal Empowerment Fund and The Global Fund for Human Rights. The training was specifically designed to empower participants with essential leadership skills and knowledge of their legal rights. A total of 25 participants took part, with two sign language interpreters provided to ensure full accessibility for deaf participants.

Objectives:

The primary objectives of the training program were to:

  • Develop leadership skills of young women and girls with disabilities
  • To raise awareness on national and international legal frameworks protecting their rights
  • Enhance the understanding on gender equality and intersectional feminist practices
  • Promote self-confidence and advocacy skills.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment

  • CRPD & its Linkage with SDGs by Laxmi Nepal
  • Gender roles, my life my realities by Ranjita Shrestha
  • Intersectional Feminist Practice, Demystifying Feminism,  CEDAW, and Disability Rights Act 2074 by Laxmi Nepal
  • Effective Communication Skills by Gargi Nepal

The training featured creative introductions, group tasks, role plays, quizzes, and interactive games, keeping participants actively engaged and energized throughout. Reflections shared during the closing session emphasized the importance of inclusive participation, accessible venues, and continued efforts in awareness-raising and rights-based advocacy. The program concluded on a note, with participants expressing increased confidence, clarity on their rights, and motivation to take on leadership roles within their communities.

Outcomes

  • 23 young women and girls with disabilities enhanced in the foundational knowledge on Leadership and Legal Awareness
  • Participants developed a clearer understanding of the difference between sex and gender, gender roles, feminist concepts, and intersectional feminist practices through interactive group activities and discussions.
  • Through role-play, group work, and communication games, participants enhanced their confidence and communication skills.
