Digital Accessibility Workshop for Stakeholders

Access Planet Organization conducted “Workshop on Digital Accessibility for Stakeholders on August 14, 2026 at Kathmandu. The session ran from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, bringing together municipal IT personnel, journalists, and police administrative officers, with the generous support of NUMUN FUND.
Objectives
- Highlight digital barriers, navigational bottlenecks, and inaccessible content formats encountered by assistive technology users.
- Introduce core digital accessibility principles and practical techniques to fix identified barriers in everyday public information materials.
- Build direct skills in applying document heading structures, formatting tables properly, writing descriptive alternative text (alt-text), and setting up accessible media and web notices.
- Foster direct engagement among local municipal IT personnel, journalists, and institutional representatives on digital inclusion.
Key Outcomes
- Direct Experiential Learning: Participants observed firsthand how screen readers process digital information and learned the specific barriers faced by persons with disabilities.
- Practical Knowledge Gain: The cohort demonstrated a measurable rise in test scores (from an average of 11.22 to 12.40 points).
- Concrete Adoption: Trainees identified immediate entry points to update government notices, news graphics, and public postings.

The August 14, 2026 training achieved its goals, equipping local municipal IT officers, journalists, and police administrative officers with simple, practical techniques to improve digital accessibility in their day-to-day work.
Moving forward, Access Planet Organization and Diverse Patterns plan to follow up with participating municipal offices, media desks, and institutional focal persons to assist with ongoing document and web accessibility questions, while designing extended follow-up sessions based on the feedback received.
