"Resilience Training Package for Women with Disabilities.”

Access Planet Organization, in partnership with Women's Fund Asia, conducted “Resilience Training Package” for women with disabilities affected by earthquakes at Darma Rural Municipality, Salyan. The training aimed to enhance this group's resilience and preparedness, recognize their vulnerability during disasters, and ensure that their unique needs are addressed in disaster response planning. The training was facilitated by Prakash Sharma from Nepal Red-cross Society and Mina Budhathoki from CMC Nepal. Gargi Nepal, the president Access Planet, facilitated the introduction session along with objective sharing.
Objectives:
The main objectives of the Orientation are as follows:
- To equip women with disabilities with knowledge and skills in disaster risk reduction, particularly in earthquake preparedness.
- To raise awareness of inclusive disaster management strategies that accommodate the needs of people with disabilities.
In the training, participants gained knowledge on disaster risk reduction and management, characteristics of disasters, preparedness during disasters, emergency services, and risk assessment. Additionally, the women received group psychosocial counseling as part of the program.
Outcomes:
- Participants gained knowledge on Disaster Risk Reduction.
- Participants became aware of inclusive disaster management strategies that accommodate the needs of people with disabilities.
- Key challenges and gaps were identified being specific to disaster risk reduction mechanism at the local level.
