Advocacy Interaction amongst Political Leaders and Disability Right Experts

A half-day " Advocacy Interaction amongst Political Leaders and Disability Right Experts" was hosted by Access Planet Organization at Hotel Hardik in Bagbazar, Kathmandu. Eight political leaders and thirty six national level disability rights experts participated in this program, funded by the Nepal US Alumni Network (NUSAN) under the Alumni Small Grant (ASG) program and Frida Young Feminist Fund.
The program was carried out as part of the project "Fostering Democratic Rights of Women with Disabilities through Political Engagement," and was a follow up to "Workshop on Issue Identification of Girls and Women with Disabilities." In this program, Declaration document prepared by national disability rights experts with the identification of key issues faced by girls and women with disabilities was shared and presented to political leaders. The political leaders also expressed their commitments to include women with disabilities and their issues in the provincial and national elections and overall development process.
Outcomes of the program:
- The declaration document has been shared with the political leaders from all major national parties
- Political leaders have been sensitized on the issues of girls and women with disabilities
- Political leaders have expressed commitments to take forward these agendas in upcoming national and provincial election as well as in the overall development process.
